Salash – farm house of Voivodina

salashIn the Vojvodina region, north part of Serbia, the most popular tourist attractions are the salashes, traditional farm houses. During the past, salash was the part of a farm economy in purpose to accommodate farmer and his family during the season offering basic facilities. It is consist of the single storey house, barns, stables and open garage for mechanic equipment and tools. It is a property outside village next to fields, pastures and meadows. Breading cattle like horses, cows, pigs and poultry was a must. Every salash had its guardian dog.
Today, salashes are fancy, trendy guesthouses with top level services, accommodation and culinary. Most of them provide swimming pools, hot tubs, horse riding, fishing and produce organic food. The most popular Salashes are at Chenei (Čenej) near Novi Sad and arround Palić and Lugosh lake near Subotica.
